Salinity Damage on 14 fairway and the offending drain

 

WEEKLY Golf Report for the week ending 6 June 2021.

We have been blessed by some great weather coming into the start of Winter, but the high tides have wreaked some havoc over the course, with saltwater entering the fairways through the recently unblocked drainage systems.

There have been stories of stranded patrons and staff in the Clubhouse when the access causeway “went under” on numerous occasions – our courtesy bus became stranded on the centre hump for a few hours – the joy of being on an Island.

Tuesday 1 June was an Open Medley Stableford won by Leanne Welsh (26) with 43 points from Liam Fuller (14) with 39 points on countback from Colin Habgood (9) from Kempsey.

Other good scores from Ross Morpuss, Greg Frost (Springwood), Raymond Meehan & Bryan Ussher all with 38 points.

The Ball rundown went to 35 points on countback. NTP’s to Christopher Gow on 5, Gary Rumble on 13, Greg Frost on 15 & Colin Habgood on 18.

Wednesday 2 June was the Women’s Monthly Medal.

Division 1 (scratch to 25) was won by Jennifer Johnston (25) with net 65 from Henny Oldenhove (17) with net 70.

Kerrie Eichorn won the Gross with 86.

In Division 2 (26-34), Bev Lewis (31) from Kogarah won the net with 65, and the Medal went to Narelle Delaney (29) with net 70.

In Division 3 (35 to 45), the Medal went to Morann Paterson (40) with net 71 from Bryony Brownlie (45) with net 74.

The Ball Rundown went to net 75. NTP’s went to Kerrie Eichorn and Mavis Davis on 5, Wendy Avery won the Pizza voucher on 13, Sue Brooks on 18, and Kerrie Eichorn won the putting.

Thursday 3 June was a Medley Stableford played in 2 Divisions.

There was a tough battle in Division 1 (Scratch to 20) with Warren Fuller (19) and Chris Thorndike (17) both scoring 41 points, Warren winning on countback.

Peter Dawe (27) won Division 2 (21 to 45) with 40 points from Malcolm McGoldrick (21) with 39 points.

Other good scores from Geoff Brooks 40, Urpo Ylinen & Bruce Mason with 39 points.

The Ball run down went to 34 points on countback.

NTP’s went to Paul McElhinney on 2, Joe Street on 5, Vern Christopher on 7, Warren Fuller on 8, Geoffrey McCann got the Pizza voucher on 13, Keith Elphick got Stu’s ball on 15, and Paul Ryan on 18.

Saturday 5 June was the Men’s Monthly Medal & Eclectic played into a cool southerly breeze with 82 players seeking that elusive Medal.

In “A” Grade (scratch to 12), Ian Hopper (12) from Garfield was the winner with 69 Net from Greg Smith (10) with net 72 and got the Member’s medal.

Scratch winner was Bruce Berry with 81.

In “B” Grade (13 to 18), Phillip Frost (15) won with net 65 from Steve Frost (14) with net 69.

Scratch winner was Mark McLaren with 97.

In “C” Grade (19 to 27) Peter Fredericks (19) won with Net 68 from Keith Elphick with net 69.

Scratch winner was Geoff Harris with 88.

Other good scores from Norman Devereaux 69, Anthony Reams 70, John Buganey 71, Kevin Mulhall & Geoffrey McCann 72.

The Ball run down to 75 on countback.

NTP’s went to John Buganey on 2 for the longest putt, Phillip Frost on 5, Murray Ingram on 8, Edward Penrose got the Pizza voucher on 13, Joe Street got Stu’s ball on 15, and Roger Dean on 18.

Sunday 6 June was the open Island Sunday Mixed 4BBB Stableford sponsored by Kay & Kel McGoldrick.

Winners with a great score of 47 points was Lyn Grose & Leslie Mohr from Gloria & Barry Thomas from Coffs Harbour with 44 points on countback.

The Ball rundown went to 41points on countback.

NTP’s went to Geoffrey Harris on 5 and 18, Kerrie Eichorn on 13 and 18, and Lyn Grose on 5.

MNCDGA Men’s Pennants – Our 3b Team have won both matches this weekend against Sawtell, and now proceed to the Semi Finals – well done to the Team, and good luck in the semis at a venue to be advised.

Brian Burns Memorial Shield Challenge is a 2 Day 4BBB Event to be played at Nambucca on 17 June and Macksville on Saturday 19 June – full details on flyers in house and golfers wishing to represent their Clubs need to register at their Club.

Course Flood Recovery – much of the accumulated mud has been removed, some mounded, others used to fill the old bunker on the right hand side of the 3rd fairway.

Some sand has been delivered, and bunkers may be back in play shortly – remember to check the Local Rules Board for any changes to mode of play.
