Nambucca Heads Island Golf Club Sport Sport Results by News Of The Area - Modern Media - January 19, 2022 AFTER a few wet days, it wasn’t long before we were able to “Play as it Lies” again, and the hot weather is making the grass just jump out of the ground, but unfortunately, creating some heat stress problems for our temperamental Bent greens – it’s a tough job being a Greenkeeper. We thank The Golden Sands Tavern – our featured sponsor of the week. Tuesday 11 January was a Medley Stableford where it was great to see some visitors get amongst the Trophies. In Division 1 (0 to 19), Lane Russell (19) from Dorrigo was the winner with 38 points from Brenden McLeod (14) from Cypress Lakes with 36 points. We needed a countback to separate the winner of Division 2 (20 to 45), Caleb Howell (21) with 38 points from runner-up Andrew Johnston (21). Other good scores from Gary Scott 37 & Ross Morpuss 36 – the ball rundown to 32 points on countback The Ladies continued their 9 Hole Stableford Summer Competition on Wednesday 12 January where Gillian Anderson (27) won with 18 points on countback from Jennifer Ainsworth (32). The Ball rundown went to Susan McWilliam and Peta Giddey 18, and Jennifer Johnston 17. On Thursday 13 January we played a Medley Single Stableford. Division 1 (0 to 16) was won by Anthony Smith with 41 points from Colin Wormleaton (8) on 39 points. In Division 2 (17 to 21), a countback was again required to decide the winner – John Hopkins (20) with 40 points from Wayne Davies 17) from Toukley. Another good score in Division 3 (22 to 45), with Thomas Robbins (23) scoring 41 points to win from Leslie Mohr (23) with 38 points. Other good scores from Andrew Donovan 39, Alvin Rapley 38, Lyn Grose, Bruce Berry, Paul Reid, Greg Lucas, Chris Thorndike and Ted Beaton 37 points – I think we should have removed the “Preferred Lie” rule for today. The “Island Challenge” Series sponsored by Toyota Service Advantage is a multi-round stroke event where your best five scores throughout the year will decide if you qualify to win the “Road to Cypress Lakes” complete golfing package – self drive vehicle, golf, and accommodation. The series is being played on the 4th Tuesday monthly, and with generous monthly trophies on offer if you can play to your handicap, is expected to be a very popular event. Others to win a sleeve of balls for playing to their handicaps were Rhonda Rowe, Henny Oldenhove & Stephen Carr. NTP’s went to Denise Paluch on 13th Pizza Voucher and Kim Michelson on 18.
