Barbara Lyle has been music director for 10 of those years. Barbara also sings with the Newcastle University Choir and she is involved in many other activities in Tea Gardens. “This year, we want to pay tribute to Barbara for her dedication to the choir,” Ms Chaikin told News Of The Area. “Margaret Rowden has been our accompanist since 2009 when she took over from Wilma Black. The choir would also like to acknowledge Wilma and Margaret’s commitment to the choir.” The choir welcomes all newcomers and meets for practice each Wednesday afternoon at 2pm during term time. The choir also sings at the Anzac and Remembrance day services and occasionally for the Dolphins Friday group. If you wish to experience the joy of singing in harmony and learning basic vocal technique you are welcome to join. “It has been proven that singing improves health and well being. Everyone can sing!” Ms Chaikin said. Registration Day for the U3A is 20 January 2017 from 9am at the Community Hall, Hawks Nest.
