Saturday mornings weather was perfect with just a slight a breeze and the stage set up for a variety of local entertainers with everything from ukulele players, a dance school performance, line dancing, to the prawn eating competition and pop up fashion parades. Each and every one participating, giving a great performance on the day. The Green Paws dog show proved to be a popular crowd pleaser again this year and as the duck derby got underway so the wind picked up making for a much faster race. Then the wind turned gusty and at times gale force. “These inflatable pink flamingos may develop wings and fly,” exclaimed Stall holder co-ordinator Roz Meehan. “It was all hands-on deck for a while trying to save gazebo’s and merchandise from being blown away,” said Roz. But in true Aussie style festival goers and volunteers, who just appeared out of the crowds, helped each other battle the wind until it calmed down again. The entertainment returned to the stage in the form of The Driftwood Trio band and then the Fleetwood Mac running show had everyone literally dancing in the street. The fireworks spectacular from the barge on the river went off without a hitch and was a fitting finale to this year’s wonderful Myall River Festival. By Sandra CLARK
