IT’S taken some hard core lobbying, but dredging has finally started along the Myall River area known as the ‘Gut’ which hugs the Tea Gardens foreshore.

“Since 2014, boat owners who have their vessels moored in the ‘Gut’ have reported that they could only access their vessels at the top half of the tide due to sand intrusion,” Gordon Grainger from the Myall River Action Group told News Of The Area.
“They had been unsuccessful in having the area dredged, and asked the Myall River Action Group for assistance in lobbying the various Government Agencies for approval.”
The Gut was last dredged in 1961.
“We are very pleased to report that this outcome has been achieved and would like to take this opportunity to thank MidCoast Council which has assumed the project management and Crown Lands for providing financial assistance.”
Mr Grainger added, “Without their help this outcome would not have happened.”
Construction of the sand transfer system to replenish sand onto Jimmy’s Beach has also begun.
Over the coming months MidCoast Council’s contractors will install a pipeline from the Winda Woppa stockpile through to Jimmy’s Beach and commission a pump station.
Council has committed to replenishing the stockpile from the ‘Shortcut’.
Once completed, the system will be capable of transferring 10,000 cubic metres of sand over a two week period.
MidCoast Council has committed to the program for the next 20 years.
