This year the competition was held at Yamba and nine swimmers and a support crew from the Myall Masters Club recently made the 500 kilometre journey to the northern New South Wales coastal town. Chris Lock, Chris Mobbs, Brad Jensen, Michael Rose, Leon Bobako, Sharon Taylor, Linda Stubbs, Cheryl Rose and Liz McKay all took to the water against competitors from 22 clubs. “Myall Masters performed exceptionally well, achieving fourth place overall and fourth in the average score,” Valerie Mobbs, told News Of The Area. “Not bad considering the stiff competition from Sydney, Newcastle, Gold Coast and the host Club, Clarence River which fielded 30 swimmers.” Valeria said, “Liz McKay, Michael Rose, Leon Bobako and Christopher Lock deserve special mention for achieving third, second and first placings respectively in their age groups.” Michael Rose was entered in six out of seven events achieving a well deserved second placing overall. Out of the pool the conditions were very cold and rainy. “Our Head Coach, Brad Jensen, was primed to crash through the 14 second barrier for the 25 metre Freestyle, making him one of the fastest men in Australia in his age group, however the inclement weather forced the organisers to abandon block starts and start in the water, which put a damper on what promised to be an exciting race,” Valerie said. The team of Sharon Taylor, Chris Lock, Leon Bobako and Linda Stubbs won the 200 Medley Relay and Liz McKay, Brad Jensen, Chris Mobbs and Cheryl Rose took out third place. In the 200 Free relay, Linda Stubbs Michael Rose, Sharon Taylor and Brad Jensen came in first and Chris Lock, Liz McKay, Cheryl Rose and Leon Bobako finished third. When all the results were tallied, the Myall Masters retain their lead in second division in the branch point score. The thousand kilometre round trip well worth the journey. By Margie TIERNEY
