16 Myall swimmers took to the pool against swimmers from all over the State at the Homebush Olympic Aquatic Centre.

“Out of the 18 events contested, Myall finished with 2 firsts, 5 seconds, 6 thirds, 3 fourths and 2 fifths,” Valerie Mobbs told News Of The Area.

“Throughout the meet there was a lot of encouragement provided by our supporters who greatly assisted in our performance and added to the fun on the day.”

“Myall finished in seventh position, which was a great result once again, and reflected the huge commitment to their fitness, with most swimmers continuing to train hard during the off season.”

The men’s 280+, 4x100m freestyle team of Chris Lock, Col Bertram, John Coles and Laurie Vickery came home with a gold medal.

The Myall women’s 200m, 200+ medley relay team comprising of Anna Craig, Sharon Taylor Chris Sefton and Cheryl Rose also won gold.

Valerie added, “The Club, was extremely encouraged by the rate of participation of swimmers and that another five swimmers were prepared to compete if needed to make up the relay teams.”

“A big thanks goes to Team Nichols, Ronnie and Warwick, who recruited their daughter Anna, at short notice, as a new Club member.”

“One of the highlight match ups was Myall 4 x 25m men, up against the Sydney Tattersalls club comprising some elite racers and World Champion Alan Brown.

Myall swimmers were defending their number one ranking from last year.”

“Our newcomer Laurie Vickery appeared a little overawed at the prospect of racing against such an elite opposition but was extremely determined not to back off’.”

“The end result, Myall came in second closely behind Tattersalls team, which were only 0.2 secs off breaking the National Record.

Valerie said, “Once again our Club has had an outstanding result, reflecting the high calibre of dedication and pride shown by all our club members.
