Principal Mr Mark Clemson said Ray spoke about the history of the ANZAC spirit and Bob spoke about training dogs to help with war efforts. Highlighting the ANZAC qualities, Jenny shared the story of Simpson and his Donkey and the bravery he displayed when moving injured soldiers to safety. “It was wonderful to have the support of the local sub-branch to relay to future generations their stories,” Mr Clemson said. At each of the ceremonies, students and guests laid wreaths before the sounding of the Last Post and a minute silence, allowing students to pay their respects to the 8000 soldiers who gave their lives at Gallipoli and those who served in later conflicts. “Many of those who didn’t come home were not much older than us, and these commemorations remind us of the sacrifices that were made,” Maddison said. Tea Gardens school choir sang ‘Can You Hear the Children Marching’ during the service.
