For Kindergarten children, a wave goodbye on the first day may bring a tear to their parent’s eyes, while for others, starting high school is a big milestone and a reminder of how quickly time goes.

Amia Murphy, who is amongst the cohort of 55 students starting Year 7 at Bulahdelah Central School, said she is looking forward to the new experiences.

“I can’t wait to make new friends and try out all the different subjects,” she said.

“I am also a little bit nervous because there will be many changes, but there will be lots of people to help us out.”

Year 7 Advisor, Ms Linda Drenkhahn, said last year’s Orientation Day provided students with the basics to begin with confidence.

“It was an opportunity for students to meet their teachers and classmates and become familiar with the school grounds and routines,” she said.

“We are certainly looking forward to working with the students and their parents throughout the year.”

As the leap to high school can be both an exciting and daunting time, Ms Drenkhahn said it is understandable that some students may be feeling a little anxious.

“Bulahdelah is a friendly country school and there is nothing to be nervous about,” she said.

“The staff are here to help, and students and parents need to let us know if they are worried at any stage.”

The Year 7 students have come together from eight primary schools throughout the region.
