It’s the season to be jolly and local police are asking all community members and visitors to the area to behave responsibly during the holiday period.

Whether celebrating at a Christmas party or enjoying a few drinks with mates, police say no alcohol is the only safe limit when driving.

“Remember to eat food while consuming alcohol and know your limits, never drink and drive and always have alternative transport or a designated driver,” they say.

“Only time will eliminate the alcohol from your body, you still may not be able to drive first thing in the morning.”

Roadside breath testing can happen anywhere at anytime and your chances of being pulled over are much higher during the holiday season.

Even Santa won’t escape a random test, so don’t put your own safety or others at risk by boozing and cruising.

The festive season and celebrating go hand-in-hand and police encourage you to enjoy yourself, but ask that you be mindful of your neighbours if hosting a party at home.

“Keep them informed of your intentions and plans,” they advise.

“Loud music should really be turned off by midnight on weekends and by 10pm on weekdays.”

It is also recommended that you take guests inside late at night and close the windows to minimise noise.

Although Christmas is always a great time to catch up with family members you only see once a year, our local boys in blue say some people will soon realise why this is the case.

“Sadly, fights do occur and, in fact, especially at Christmas,” they state.

“If it is possible to be tolerant or walk away from an argument you are not only being the mature person but could be avoiding a ruined Christmas gathering.”

Whatever your plans for the festive season, local police encourage everyone to enjoy themselves responsibly for a safe and happy Christmas and great end to 2016.
