AS did most of Australia, much of the Myall stopped at 3pm on the first Tuesday in November to watch ‘Rekindling’ take out the Melbourne Cup for 2017.

In the hours leading up to the country’s most famous horse race, it was time for many to dress up and dine out at special lunches across Hawks Nest and Tea Gardens.
From a smorgasbord at the Hawks Nest Golf Club, to a fashion parade and lunch at the Tea Gardens Country Club or three course lunch at the Tea Gardens Hotel with a complimentary glass of champagne, diners dined out and punted plenty.
“Everyone’s a winner today,” Mary-Ann Amber told News Of The Area.
And many, had more than the race to celebrate.
At the Tea Gardens Hotel, prizes were awarded to the best dressed couple, the best fascinator, the best hat and the best dressed.
Dylan Tennyson from Tea Gardens Real Estate took out the gong for best dressed in his colourful ‘Oppo’ suit.
When asked if this was the suit to put away and where again for cup day 2018, Dylan said, “I’ll have a new one for next year.”
And if all goes according to plan, ‘Rekindling’ as the youngest horse in the field will be back again to do it all again at Flemington next November.
