ANTI-RACISM program, All One Under the Sun has produced its first major work, a song written and produced by Grow the Music with a diverse range of young people including First Nations, refugee and migrant background and Australian-born, non-Indigenous young people. “All from different backgrounds the group built the song through exploring music and lyrics to creatively express that we stand together against racism,” Dianne Jacobus, Program Manager, All One Under the Sun, told News Of The Area. Email us – media@newsofthearea.com.au Music is a huge part of the project, seen recently in a series of school workshops where 150 young people from Coffs Harbour, Orara, Woolgoolga and Toormina High Schools participated using song writing to explore the theme of racism. “Grow the Music studio in Toormina led the production of the song and outreach workshops. “A big part of our work is to use, and pay for, local artists.” The next step will be to create a film clip for the song with local film makers. Looking ahead to September, we will develop a theatre project in collaboration with local schools incorporating Bystander Anti-Racism Training. “This training will teach people how to act when they see racism,” said Dianne. “The second part of the project will see the theatre group create scenes with an open ending, inviting audiences to decide how they could intervene as bystanders. “We will take the theatre project out to schools in early 2022.” A Youth Action Collective is currently being established to lead the project delivery. “We are inviting young people from all local High schools in the Coffs area to a day-long seminar/workshop to introduce them to the project,” said Dianne. “We are keenly inviting a strong Aboriginal presence in the program, being very much aware of the significance of the Aboriginal land we’re on.” All One Under the Sun is a program led by STARTTS supported by headspace Coffs Harbour, Coffs Harbour City Council, Coffs Harbour Local Aboriginal Lands Council and Blue Sky Community Services.
