Nerong held its first “Music on the Myall” night on Saturday 18 April at the Nerong Progress Association Hall.

It was a sold out event with over 120 people attending.

It featured Ian Wilson, who is an accomplished musician achieving sixth place in the Brass Bands National Championships recently.

Organisers, Bev and Graeme Brooker, are hoping that this will be the first of many cultural nights to be held in Nerong village.

This first music event had a special focus though – it was a night of healing and helping the people of Nerong deal with the recent accident that involved young boys being burnt.

The support acts on the night included children from the Nerong Kids Club singing, the Quilters Club making the outfits and local Bulahdelah Central School student, Hannah Porteous, working with the children.

A light supper of pikelets, sandwiches and olive platters were made by the local women.

Bev Brooker spoke to Myall Coast News explaining, “When there is a child in hospital suffering, the community wants to pull together.

“It is said that it takes a village to raise a child but when that child gets hurt, it affects us all.”

The music night was a success and the plan is to hold music events like this one bi-monthly.
