Murrays Brewery Employee Joe Williams Wins Event Management Scholarship

Catherine Cusack, Parliamentary Secretary for the Hunter, today announced that Joe Williams from Nelson Bay is the successful recipient of a scholarship in a Diploma of Event Management, funded by the NSW Government.

“The initiative is part of the NSW Government’s $6 million Regional Conferencing Strategy and Action Plan, which includes a partnership with Meetings & Events Australia (MEA),” Catherine Cusack, Parliamentary Secretary for the Hunter said today.

“I am delighted to announce that Joe is 1 of 12 recipients who will benefit from this scholarship program which aims to upskill and create more job opportunities for rural and regional NSW communities,” Ms Cusack said.

Joe is an employee at Murrays Brewery at Bob’s Farm.

Murray Howe of Murrays Brewery told News Of The Area, “We are tremendously pleased for Joe, she is a very valued member of our team at Murrays and in my opinion the scholarship could not have gone to a more worthy recipient.

“It’s fantastic to see this happening in our local community and Joe will I am sure do the area proud,” he said.

Recipient, Joe Williams was thrilled to receive the scholarship and said it was an amazing opportunity to build her career in Event Management.

“I am new to this industry and my goal is to make a difference within my community and support small businesses across our region.

“This scholarship will give me the knowledge and network to build on the Hunter regions already growing tourism industry,” said Ms Williams.

Minister for Jobs, Investment, Tourism and Western Sydney Stuart Ayres said the business events sector presents a major opportunity for the visitor economy of regional NSW, particularly as we steer our path to recovery.

“We know that the best way forward is helping to create more jobs and these scholarships will do exactly that – giving people the tools and extra support needed to kick start their careers in the field of event management.”

The Minister congratulated the recipients who were selected by a panel, including representatives from the NSW Government’s tourism and major events agency, and Destination NSW.
