At their presentation night at the Tea Gardens Hotel last weekend, it was a chance for the team to celebrate making it into the semi-finals but just as importantly, look forward to bigger and better things on the paddock in 2018.

“It’s been a fantastic season,” Mudcrabs president David Bright told News Of The Area.

“We were short on numbers but the boys worked so hard, you couldn’t ask for a better group of blokes.”

“We have a new coach on board and we’re all looking forward to an even better season next year.”

David added, “It’s our fifth year and we’re just getting stronger.”

Speaking on behalf of the committee, club secretary Ann Scully said the 2017 season “has been the best season ever as far as the bonding and unification of the club”.

“I’m proud to be involved with the Muddies, the players show us oldies total respect.”

New coach Russell Gunn came on board late in the season having recently moved to Tea Gardens from Sydney.

He’s rugby through to his boot straps having spent 40 years involved with the Eastwood Club as a player, referee and committee member.

“All we need is more players, because the way these guys play as a team, we can be very competitive,” Russell said.

“I’ve had a ball, they’re so lucky to have such a good committee and sponsors behind them.”

Of course no presentation night would be complete without the awards.

Best Forward Nick John, Best Back Nathan Colver, Most Improved Kayden John, Coaches Award Karl Nickle, Clubman of the Year Ashley Rushby, Most Valued Player Chris ‘Turtle’ Sando and Pelican Award to Danny Lawrence.
