CONCERNS expressed by the Heritage Council about the vista from Tanilba’s arched gates have seen modifications to the waterfront Centennial Park project.

The new amenities block will now be rebuilt on the old site which is nestled amongst the tea-trees. The play equipment has been upgraded and a picnic shelter shed and barbeque will be constructed it what is now a gravel car park.

A new sealed car park will then be constructed to the west of its current location.

The initiative is a joint venture between Port Stephens Council and Tilligerry Lions Club.It will cater for the ever increasing number of day trippers, tourists and locals alike.

Councillor Steve Tucker said that the makeover was part of a wider initiative to make the peninsula’s waterfront more ‘user friendly’.

“The big upgrade of Lemon Tree’s waterfront has worked wonders for our local businesses,” he said.

“Upgrading of our other parks and reserves will continue to be a major priority in our Forward Works Program,” Cr Tucker said.
