MINISTER for Skills and Tertiary Education Dr Geoff Lee, and Liberal Member of the NSW Upper House for the Hunter Taylor Martin visited Port Stephens last week to meet with stakeholders to discuss progress towards the new Nelson Bay Connected Learning Centre. Dr Lee said a $61.7 million investment to construct eight new Connected Learning Centres in the recent Budget would help deliver the skills and training needed to support local economies across NSW, including in Nelson Bay. “The 2019-20 NSW Budget continues the NSW Government’s proud record of strongly backing the State’s public education and training provider and the crucial role it plays delivering the skills needed in local communities right across NSW,” Dr Lee said. “In this year’s Budget, we’ve delivered funding for the design and early planning of TAFE NSW’s first permanent presence in Nelson Bay. “The new modern campus, known as a Connected Learning Centre, will provide world class facilities for students to access quality training in a range of areas critical to the NSW and local economy. “Investment in education and training is critical to the success of our State’s economy – and our 2019/20 Budget is geared to deliver these benefits across NSW.” Mr Martin said the new Connected Learning Centre would add much needed choice in education and training for the region. “The new multi-million dollar, state-of-the-art Connected Learning Centre in Nelson Bay will enable TAFE NSW to deliver a wide variety of courses,” said Mr Martin. “Connected Learning Centres provide local students access to a wide range of learning and course options, so students can get the skills they need for the job they want. “The Nelson Bay CLC is strongly backed in our community and I am pleased to see that the Nelson Bay CLC has been prioritised so that Port Stephens can benefit from these new facilities as soon as possible.” Construction of the TAFE NSW Nelson Bay Connected Learning Centre is scheduled to commence in early 2021 and be open to students ahead of Semester One 2022.
