A local campaign encouraging residents to register with the NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) and report littering offences is set to crack down on litterbugs across the MidCoast region.

Across NSW, over 15,000 people have already registered to report when they see someone throwing litter from a vehicle.

These reports are made online through the NSW EPA website and fines of $250 or more are issued to offenders.

Locally, this project is being managed by MIDWASTE in partnership with MidCoast Council in an effort to put a stop to roadside litter, which is one of our region’s most unnecessary and preventable environmental problems.

“Litter damages our natural environments, harms wildlife and sea creatures and makes our public spaces less safe and less attractive,” said MIDWASTE Coordinator Ali Bigg.

“It’s also very costly.

Each year, over 25,000 tonnes of litter is tossed in NSW and it costs more than $180 million per year to manage the problem.

As a whole, it’s unacceptable and by locals registering to report littering from vehicles,
