MIDCOAST Council’s Mobile Recycling Trailer is heading around the region again, kicking off this year’s tour on 27 February.

In 2019, the trailer collected almost 10 tonnes of hazardous problem waste and this year is expected to be no different.

The trailer will be attending a number of locations across the region, allowing residents to dispose of problem waste items, including gas bottles, paint, motor oils, car batteries, household batteries, fluoro globes and tubes, smoke detectors and fire extinguishers – all items that cannot be placed in any domestic bins (red, yellow or green).

“This is a great opportunity to get rid of problem household waste that can’t be put out in kerbside bins, but it’s also a chance to chat to our knowledgeable staff,” said Paul De Szell, MidCoast Council’s Director of Liveable Communities.

“Bringing the trailer to localities across the region not only saves residents a trip to their nearest Waste Management Centre, users can drop in and chat with our waste team about how you can do your part in helping us re-imagine the way we manage waste across the region.”

Local residents are encouraged to check their garages, sheds, laundries and under sinks to collect up to 20kg or 20 litres worth of items that can be dropped off for free to the trailer.

The Mobile Recycling trailer will visit the following locations throughout 2020, however may leave a site earlier than advertised if it reaches capacity:

• – Gloucester, Billabong Park (Denison Street, adjacent Skate Park) – Thursday 27 February – 9.30am to 11am

• – Wherrol Flat, Tennis Courts (1306 Wherrol Flat Road) – Thursday 26 March – 9.30am to 11am

• – Stroud, Waste Management Centre (Simmsville Road) – Thursday 23 April – 12pm to 1.30pm

• – Pacific Palms, Recreation Club (3957 The Lakes Way) – Thursday 28 May – 9.30am to 11am

• – Johns River, Community Hall car park (54-56 Johns River Road) – Thursday 25 June to 9.30am – 11am

• – Harrington, Annie Place (opposite Harrington Library) – Thursday 27 August – 9.30am to 11am

• – Bulahdelah Waste Management Centre, (Recovery Road) – Tuesday 22 September – 1pm to 2.30pm

• – Tea Gardens Waste Management Centre (Winta Road) – Thursday 22 October – 9.30am to 11am

• – Tuncurry, Waste Management Centre (Midge Orchid Road) – Thursday 12 November – 9.30am to 11am

A reminder to anyone who doesn’t live near one of the planned trailer locations or can’t make it there on the day, these problem waste items can be dropped off free of charge to any of our six Waste Management Centres across the region.
