“I want to acknowledge the impacts of the recent devastating floods in New South Wales, particularly in the Lismore Local Government Area.

“These have had and continue to have heartbreaking impacts on residents, businesses and council,” Mayor Pontin said.

The Mayor continued to discuss efforts of the MidCoast Council to assist, through the provision of two water and wastewater staff to aid Lismore City Council.

“Repairs to Lismore’s water and sewage system are time critical and Council has assisted in both of these areas,” Mayor Pointin said.

The team undertook repairs and reinstalled water meters damaged by the flood and aided recovery efforts to get the sewer system operational again.

Mayor Pontin stated that there are many “concerned, generous and caring people” who want to assist the flood by donating to flood affected families.

The advice by MidCoast Council is to donate through organisations such as the not-for-profit agency GIVIT.

GIVIT and the NSW Government work collaboratively alongside charities to establish urgent material support that is needed, as well as assisting with managing donated money, goods and services.

“We continue to liaise with Lismore Council and will provide more assistance if requested,” Mayor Pontin said.
