Mid North Coast fishing titles hosted at Bulahdelah Myall Coast Sport Sport by News Of The Area - Modern Media - March 14, 2023 Eleven-year-old Macey Hutchinson of Laureton displays her sensational catch of Mangrove Jack. WITH near perfect weather conditions on Sunday morning, over three dozen intrepid fishers wet their lines in the hope of bringing glory to their club and pick up the gong for the biggest fish of the species in the latest Mid North Coast Estuary Championship, this year hosted by the Bulahdelah Fishing Club. “We had fishers from as far south as Lake Macquarie to Port Macquarie in the north fishing for the big catch,” Narelle Scott, Secretary of the Mid North Coast Amateur Fishing Club Association told Myall Coast News Of The Area. “The geographic area you can fish to is as wide as you can, but the limitation is that you have to be back for the weigh in at 1pm on the Sunday at the host club.” President of the Mid North Coast Amateur Fishing Club Association, Darren Carrall told NOTA that the fishing was “pretty good”. “It just depends on where you fish,” remarked Mr Carrall. The furiously contested event was won overall by the Lake Cathie Club with some sensational catches. The overall individual winner was Tom Evans of the Bulahdelah Club with wins in the open, men’s categories and the largest Bream, with Harrington Hotel Rock and Beach Club taking out the men’s club title and the Port Macquarie Anglers Fishing Club taking out the women’s title. With a BBQ and a couple of drinks to top it all off there was applause all around for the eventually winners in each category and an opportunity to share some fishing and fun tales. There are four contests at the Mid North Coast fishing contest level each year with casting, estuary, fresh water, rock and beach and deep sea pitting each member area team against each other to decide the ultimate champion. The next Mid North Coast fishing event will be the rock and beach titles in the last weekend of May with Lake Cathie being the host club. Good luck to all clubs and fishers in these contests.
