Jim Meehan, Chair of the Pool-Subcommittee of the Tea Gardens Hawks Nest Progress Association told News Of The Area that he is pleased with the result of the petition.

“It’s a fantastic response from the community but it also shows a significant cross section of the public that wants to use the pool.

“From the demand for swim lessons and water safety, right to the disabled and older communities who want therapeutic use of the pool, we’ve seen an excellent response,” Mr Meehan said.

Mr Meehan says that the next step for the progress of the pool will be to set up a steering committee to look into potential designs, cost and responses from the community before looking into grand funding for the project.

“The community has shown their interest and support and now it’s up to us to make it happen,” Mr Meehan said.

The MidCoast Council are currently undertaking observations and project designs to upgrade the pool to make it more accessible for people with disabilities, however at this stage there are no plans for an entire upgrade.

Any person with design, construction management and Government grant experience who is interested in joining the steering committee should contact Jim Meehan at meehan.jw@gmail.com.
