WITH lockdown restrictions lifting during May many of the groups from the Port Stephens Community Arts Centre have been inspired by the incredible outdoor facilities that we are so fortunate to enjoy on our doorstep.

Melanie Delaney, leader of the Spinners and Weavers, told us that during lockdown they have been keeping in regular contact through their emailed “News for Ewes”, sharing a joke or two and admiring one another’s spun, woven or knitted creations.

Meryl Miller told News Of The Area, “They have also been meeting regularly at Dutchies Beach and enjoyed spinning in public, which has created a lot of interest amongst the joggers, walkers and beach goers.

“At a recent get together, since it was likely to be our last outdoor adventure for a while, we decided to have a bit of a fashion parade to model our latest creations. It was a bit of fun with only a small audience of a couple of dog walkers,” she said.

There have also been Fusion-in-the-Park gatherings at Dutchies Beach.

While the weather hasn’t always been kind, having the opportunity to talk and see what everyone else has been creating has been fantastic.

With the gradual opening of public places, the Port Stephens Community Arts Centre has officially registered as a COVID Safe business.

The premises were thoroughly cleaned and our craft rooms have been set up for social distancing using the 4 square metre rule.

On 1 July group activities resumed with many groups scheduling additional sessions to cater for the numbers.

The Gallery will only open to the public once the safety of our members is assured.

Members of the centre are looking forward to a firm date for re-opening the gallery, once this is set the display organisers will get to work and produce some interesting displays from the new items that so many members have been busily creating throughout lockdown.

This is one creative community which is strong and has remain connected with the many members thankful for their crafts which have kept them busy and stimulated during lockdown.
