Email us – media@newsofthearea.com.au Jersey Boys will be Jarrod’s first show at the Civic Theatre in Newcastle and first major musical theatre production. Directed by Nicholas Christo with Dan Wilson as music director, Jersey Boys has already pushed Jarrod out of his comfort zone with complicated harmonies and choreography. After originally auditioning for a different character, Jarrod was given a call back for two lead characters, before successfully being cast as Nick Massi, the bass singer of the Four Seasons. “I really wanted to be in a big show but I’ve never had to dance before and I can’t read music, so when we got into the first rehearsals I was really challenged,” he told News Of The Area. Despite only two rehearsals so far, Jarrod has already learned every song of the show. “What I lack in experience, I make up for in repetition,” Jarrod said. Jarrod spoke about the difficulties of COVID-19 with the production. “It’s been hard because our director and our lead, Frankie Valli (played by Jayden Sierra) are stuck in Sydney and can’t get here because of restrictions, so we haven’t even met them yet,” Jarrod said. Winner of Best Musical at both the Tony Awards® and Olivier Awards, the musical biography, Jersey Boys tells the story of a 40-year friendship. Four scrappy young men from New Jersey – Frankie Valli, Bob Gaudio, Nick Massi and Tommy DeVito – find a magic sound that propels them from singing under streetlights to singing in spotlights all over the world. “Jersey Boys is so dynamic and so challenging, it’s a very fast-paced musical and you’re constantly up and about- it’s going to be a great show,” Jarrod said. The show is set to take the Civic Theatre stage from 8 October until 23 October 2021 with a range of matinees and evening performances.
