Variety, the Children’s Charity, is involved in many fundraising endeavours, one of which involves people donating their hair. Donations of hair are made into specialised wigs for those who have lost their hair due to a medical condition such as alopecia. Variety raises funds through the sale of the hair which is then used to provide equipment and services to children in need, ensuring your hair helps in more than one way. To date, Variety has received 20,302 hair donations. Scarlett was inspired to donate when she learnt about the sick children that Variety supports. She told News Of The Area, “I just want to be able to help other kids that are sick, and because it’s a nice thing to do for someone else.” “I want to be able to share my hair with other kids who can’t grow their own.” Scarlett’s school put on an assembly for the big event, so the other students could come and cheer her on. They also interviewed Scarlett about why she was so passionate about donating her hair. She spoke to her teachers and fellow classmates about her decisions, and addressed them confidently and maturely. By Rachael VAUGHAN Scarlett and her long locks, on the way to the big chop.
