Part of the Medowie Rural Fire Brigade Crew were Senior Deputy Peter Smith, Deputy Louise McClelland, Alice Lavender, and Kyra McGrorey-Clark. Kyra, who coincidentally passed from probationary member to full member whilst on deployment, told News Of The Area, “Our job was to do a strategic back burn to help tie in the edges of the fire and establish some containment lines.” “We went down with a task, and we got it done.” “We came home feeling pretty proud,” she said. The Medowie Brigade are still accepting expression of interest from community members who would like to be involved with the Brigade, and who are available during the day. If you are a shift worker, retirees, stay at home parent, or similar, this might be your perfect opportunity to contribute to the community and help out your brigade. Please also be advised that last week’s back burn on Brocklesby Road did not take place, due to wet weather. This burn will be rescheduled shortly, and will take around five hours to complete. Residents can keep advised via the Brigade’s facebook page for the proposed date and time, should it take place before the next edition of News Of The Area. By Rachael VAUGHAN
