The building and associated works which will become the Medowie Sports and Community Club is set to commence in 2017 after eight years of planning,

In those eight years a small steering committee has worked to set up the management structures, the plans and ultimately get the approvals and funding required, making the facility a reality.

“With the DA received, a long term lease and the funding locked in, the work of the steering committee is almost complete,” President Rod Kerr told News Of The Area.

“The steering committee said at the start that it’s a community facility and they will run it when it becomes a reality.”

“But we have one last job, and that is to appoint the very first Chairman and then his or her board of directors to take the facility into its next phase,” Rod Kerr said.

The Club is now calling for expressions of interest from local residents to fill one of those roles.

Interested people may email the club at medowiesporties@hotmail.com to get an information package.

Submissions close on 31 December, with appointments to be made soon after.

Board positions for the Bowls club will also be opened in early 2017.

Port Stephens Deputy Mayor Chris Doohan told News Of The Area, “I acknowledge the hard work of this steering committee and those committees before this one.”

“People don’t know the effort that this committee has put in, they deserve a lot of praise.”

“They should be proud to have brought important infrastructure into Medowie,” he said.
