WHEN the Medowie Marauders Rugby Union Club put on a fundraiser, they pull out all the stops. Saturday 30 July saw the “Pink Sock Breast Cancer Round” where a massive fundraiser was put on by the club at their Boyd Oval home ground to celebrate and raise much needed donations. The recipient of funds raised from the day is the Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation (HBCF). HBCF help care for local Hunter residents with breast cancer. They help with practical things like lifts to and from appointment, meals, cleaning and all those things that help make a stressful time a little easier for sufferers and their families. The special day included jumping castles, face painting, breast cancer merchandise, coffee van, extensive canteen and BBQ options, and iron man comp for the kids and a large auction at the finish of the day. The grand total for the day has reached $10,000 – thanks to all the wonderful people who attended the event and dug deep to help this wonderful Foundation. The Medowie Rugby Club is not just a rugby club they are really one big family and love nothing more than to get behind their local community charities and help them to help others. Lisa Cook, a club volunteer and one of the organisers, told News Of The Area “I was really overwhelmed at the amount of support within the community. The day was better than we could have imagined. I really love being a part of this club.” “The day would not have been possible without the local business who donated raffle and auction items, cash donations and advertising by the paper.” Another of the organisers, Kelly Mason, told News Of The Area, “I am feeling like a very proud Medowian.
