NEIGHBOURHOOD Watch in Medowie has kicked off in 2018 with an informative meeting, and planning for the new year.

A new community liaison officer, Senior Constable Kel Boak was introduced to the group, who will work alongside Senior Constable Alison Stewart in supporting the Medowie Neighbourhood watch in providing information, support, crime statistics and assistance where needed as the group looks forward to working together for a safer community.

Everyone present at the first meeting for 2018 was given, free of charge, a large Neighbourhood watch sticker for their wheelie bins.

Any resident who would also like one of these stickers is welcome to attend the meeting next month to pick one up.

Medowie Neighbourhood Watch Secretary Libby Dingle told News Of The Area, “We’d love to see the group grow even more this year after a wonderful relaunch year in 2017 and a fantastic showing of support from the community.”

“Feel free to come along to a meeting, or come down and see us at the markets this weekend on the 10 February.”

The first set of crime statistics for 2018, shared with the group this month by Senior Constable Kel Boak, showed a slight decline across all crime areas, which is positive to hear.

Statistics for this reporting month included, two assaults (non DV), one break and enter, two stolen vehicles, one theft from dwelling and four reports of malicious damage.

These statistics of course do not give an accurate view of crime in our community if the residents are not actively and consistently reporting all instances of crime related offences, so residents are reminded that nothing is too small to report, and even seemingly insignificant pieces of information can help with the ‘bigger picture’,

Neighbourhood Watch Medowie meetings are held the last Wednesday of each month at 7:30pm in the Medowie Community Centre, first meeting room on the left as you enter the building.

Tea and Coffee is provided, so make sure to tell your neighbours.
