It includes lights, siren and a TV screen simulating the experience of a crew traveling to a fire – and even shows images of Medowie streets as the ‘truck’ races to a fire. The truck is named after a former brigade member, Mike Maskey, who passed away 7 years ago. Mike had been a strong supporter of the brigade when he was the local butcher, prior to becoming a member, and was a well-known and respected local. As a volunteer, Mike Maskey was heavily involved in all brigade activities. Mike was a Deputy Captain of the brigade and took a leading role in training and community education. Ken Johnson from Medowie RFS told News Of The Area, “Mighty Mike will be used to support the brigade’s community engagement activities.” “While the children are enjoying the experience brigade members will be taking the opportunity to discuss fire safety issues with their parents,” said Mr Johnson. Mighty Mike will be unveiled to the public at the Medowie Rural Fire Service Open Day, which will be held at the station on Saturday 10th September (10am-2pm). By Rachael VAUGHAN
