ON Saturday 26 June 10 local residents completed a nationally recognised first aid course at the Medowie Community Centre.

Taking part in the course run by Business Wise First Aid were six members of the Medowie Lions Club together with one rep from each of Medowie Netball, Football, Rugby and Port Stephens AFL.

Medowie Lions fully funded the course including hiring of the hall and providing lunch to the participants.

“We do a lot of work that is invisible to the community,” said Club President Mr John Tunbridge.

“We wanted to reach out to the community through local volunteer-run sports organisations to make sure we had better care and protection if or when someone is hurt, ill or injured.

“By providing people with a qualification, we can all be confident that we have ‘first responders’ at each of our sports grounds, at the Community Markets and Driver Reviver.

“We intend on running a second course later this year.

“For the second course we will invite Medowie Little Athletics and Cricket to send a rep, plus Guides and Scouts.”

Medowie Lions Club raises funds through many activities from BBQs to the markets, Return and Earn (anyone can donate to Medowie Lions at Medowie and Tomago) and the annual Art & Craft Show.

Mr Tunbridge said the club is always on the lookout for “good people of any age, from any background” to join the club or help with club activities. Information can be found on the Club’s website or Facebook or by calling into the Medowie Community Markets on the second Saturday of each month, outside the Bull n Bush Hotel.
