THE Wirreanda Senior Dance Group excelled at this year’s Hunter Schools Dance Festival, held at Wests City in Newcastle on 27 July.

The group once again successfully auditioned to be part of the festival that celebrates dance in public primary and secondary schools, and performed to a full house

The Wirreanda Senior Dance Group consists of thirty children from years 4, 5 and 6 – which includes 28 girls and 2 boys.

This year, teacher Corynne Darcy has chosen the theme of Royal Botanical Gardens, as we celebrate it’s 200^th birthday in 2016.

Ms Darcy told News Of The Area, “I used an instrumental piece of music from The Secret Garden to choreograph a classical ballet piece incorporating romantic tutus for the girls as the flowers.”

“Our two dashing young men were dressed in green and gold to be the stems. We have a beautiful backdrop prop that was painted by a talented mother of two of our dancers – Corinne Bowden,” she said.

 

 

The children had to audition at school in front of the Principal and Deputy Principal to be a part of the Senior Dance Group, then be trained by Ms Darcy during lunch times for the past 4 months.

“The children have put in a lot of hard work, and we are so pleased with their performance, we look forward to many more this year,” Ms Darcy said.

The group will perform at Assemblies, Education Week, Hunter Dance Festival, Lakeside Community Showcase, Raymond Terrace Marketplace and Medowie Carols by Candlelight.
