FOLLOWING on from the successful Hairspray stage spectacular in 2016, this year another arena show produced by Harvest Rain is returning to Newcastle.

The ever-popular musical Grease has been selected as the showstopper production.

The talent of Medowie’s young dancers is again being recognised with around ten selected to perform.

From the approximately 1000 dancers from around the Hunter and coast regions who auditioned in October 2016, about 600 were selected to be part of the show.

It has been an intensive experience for the young dancers, who attended a boot camp in February 2017 to learn about stage performance.

The rehearsals proper began during the Easter school holidays, with final intense rehearsals scheduled for the two weeks of the July school holidays.

News Of The Area caught up with some of the dancers to talk about this amazing experience.

Keira O’Brien, 12, said, “I’m extremely excited to be a part of Grease.”

“I am already nervous and definitely will be on the performance days.”

“Probably the only way to help my nerves would be to practice the dances over and over again.”

“My friends and family are very proud of me.”

Rhianna Perry, 12, told News Of The Area, “I am excited about performing especially after having performed in Hairspray last year.”

Skyla Conlon, 11, who is in year five, was in Hairspray last year, and attends Hunter School of Performing Arts said, “I’m very excited.”

“I will probably be a little bit nervous, so I will just close my eyes and breathe in and out.”

“I dream of being a performer when I grow up because I love acting so much.”

Miss Hayley Carmody is also looking forward to the show, telling News Of The Area, “I was so excited when I was told I was successful.”

“My family is very excited for me and can’t wait for the show.”

“I think I may be a little bit nervous, but I am sure I’ll be fine because I’ve got my friends with me.”

The show is scheduled for 14-16 July at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre
