Their Christmas season is filled to the brim with events that celebrate this season of giving, and they have immersed themselves in doing some wonderful things for those in need this Christmas,

News Of The Area met with two of these very special Medowie CWA ladies to hear about one act of goodwill and kindness in particular.

It is set to give many families a much needed boost of support to keep their spirits high this Christmas.

The Medowie CWA is supporting the families of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at John Hunter Hospital.

Many families between now and Christmas will learn that their tiny miracles will be spending Christmas Day in hospital, and the Medowie CWA ladies are making sure that their first Christmases are still very special despite not being able to be in their own homes.

The CWA ladies are providing every NICU cot, bassinet and giraffe bed with very special christmas bedding, made with love by Medowie CWA President June Fuller.

June has had a long association with the NICU and Children’s ward at John Hunter Hospital, and is proud to be helping make Christmas a special occasion this year.

She has been an avid sewer for the majority of her life and loves nothing more than using the fruits of her labour of love to help others.

Every cent she makes from sewing and alteration work goes straight back into charity work.

June worked with representatives from the NICU to measure up what would work best for each type of bed, and got to work creating special pieces for every baby and family.

June told News Of The Area, “We’ve founds some very special panels of material this year to use, and I’m proud of the results.”

“It is very important to make sure that these families can celebrate Christmas with some special pieces here and there to make their time in the NICU a little bit easier during this time.”

“These little babies are fighters, and they deserve to have something special for their first Christmas,” she said.

June and her fellow CWA sewers and crafters work entirely from donations.

Next time you visit Spotlight or Lincraft, or anyone who sells store vouchers on a stand, pop one in with your shopping, and drop it in the mailbox at 907 Richardson Road, Campvale for the CWA to use for purchasing more supplies to help others this Christmas.
