THIS week saw the Community Centre Committee hold their Annual General Meeting.

The voluntary team members are very proud of their achievements over the past 25 plus years that many of the current members have been associated with at the centre.
This year’s committee consists of President Geoff Dingle, Secretary Terry Corcoran, Treasurer Margot Turner, Advisory members Pauline Avery and Ken Sewell, support member Nadia Petrie and Caretaker Kevin Tomlinson.

The Committee have been working hard and have completed a number of updates and improvements to this important community facility.

They have just recently replaced the playground security fencing and installed projections screens in the main halls and office area.

In the past twelve months, they have upgraded the sand pit and cover, installed new disability access ramps, upgraded paths, resurfaced the front entrance car park and installed solar panels to reduce our energy bill.

They have replaced the old air conditioner with more energy efficient air conditioners in the front office areas and upgraded carpets to all office areas.

They are also in the process of getting quotes to upgrade one of two kitchens and are preparing to upgrade window furnishings throughout the hall.

Medowie community centre is the best and busiest example of a multifunction community facility in Port Stephens, with 50 plus user groups booking and using the facilities every month.
It supports disability groups, community and Council sponsored playgroups and is the permanent location for our community nurse taking care of the health of newborns and their mothers and caregivers.

Geoff Dingle told News Of The Area, “The days when groups operated and managed their own halls is long gone with costs far exceeding benefits.”

“We keep our costs low so everyone has the opportunity to use the facilities.”

Despite rumours that there are no available bookings slots, this is not the case.

With two halls and two fully equipped kitchens, two sets of amenities, a committee function room and three office spaces, Kevin Tomlinson, the centre caretaker, is always able to take care of new enquiries for bookings.
Weddings and parties and exhibitions such as the Lions Annual Art Show are specially catered for at weekends.
