COWS, which stands for Celebration Of Words, is an event run annually.
The Celebrations of words events celebrate a variety of public speaking, story and poetry writing, showcasing the skills of local young people.
This year was the third year of the competition.
The Lions Club of Raymond Terrace hosted the Public Speaking component of the COWs events.
Kimberley Osborne, Brian Tang and William Poley represented Medowie Christian School in the competition.
The students were asked to speak on three topics on the night, with each student from each group taking on a one particular topic respectively.
This year’s competition saw the students asked; “How would you manage illegal graffiti and rubbish dumping in our parks and open spaces? How would you encourage young people to use our parks and open spaces more frequently and lastly how would you improve the image of Youth in our community?”
Medowie Christian School competed against St Philips Christian College Salamander Bay, who won the competition last year.
Medowie Christian School were the winners on the night, representing their school wonderfully, and giving impressive speeches addressing the selected questions.
Medowie Christian School English teacher, Sam Jones, told News Of The Area, “We are extremely proud of the diligence and effort these three students demonstrated in preparing for and delivering their speeches.”
