Medowie Christian School Principal Simon Herd opened the ceremony, welcoming Kate Washington MP, School Board Chair Dr Stuart Gray, Members of the Board of Trustees, special guest Mrs Maureen ‘Nanna’ Cole, Uncle Neville, Elder of the Worimi community, School Captains, students, colleagues, and friends.

The new building features around 900 square metres of floor space and cost $3.5 million, with Commonwealth Government contributions totaling $760,000.

Simon Herd told the crowd at the ceremony that he was proud to stand in front of them and present this wonderful achievement for the school.

“A school is not just an island by itself, it is part of the wider community: the community of church, the community of the local environment, your local government, all in all a major part of the fabric of the local community who come together to achieve far more than individually they could,” he said.

He spoke of the new aspects to the building and the impact it would have on the overall culture of the school.

“Modern facilities improve not only the school’s physical environment but also its learning culture,” he said.

“However, the building alone cannot infuse the vision and passion that guide the school’s development.”

“It is the Christ-centred approach, the human relationships and interaction between teachers and students which will make the difference and ensure the new building supports higher levels of learning,” he said.

Medowie Christian School is currently in the design phase of a new world-leading, student-focused STEM building that is due to commence construction in 2018.

They are also proud to be launching a Prep program for four year olds in 2018 as they seek to provide a greater service to the community and ensure the best start for the learning journey of children at Medowie Christian School.
