KARUAHMen’s Shed is set to benefit from an $8,000 funding boost made available through a grant from Port Stephens Council. The funding program delivered a total of $19,000 to community organisations in the Port Stephens Local Government Area for projects that will deliver vital services to the community. The Men’s Shed is a registered health promotion charity that supports programs to improve men’s health and wellbeing with over 1000 sheds located throughout Australia. The Karuah Men’s Shed has been operating for the past five years and provides a welcoming and supportive environment for its members and visitors. President John King said group members greatly appreciate the funding assistance provided by Port Stephens Mayor Bruce Mackenzie. “The funds will go towards our next major project which is a full replacement of the front deck of the shed,” Mr King said. Email us today for a quote: ads@mcnota.com.au “We’ve spent a lot of time getting the building up to a safe standard, and once the deck is restored, members will be able to go out and fish from it and it will be a great place to put your feet up and relax.” Mr King said the organisation hosts regular presentationson health related issues and isalso involved in supporting the health of the wider community through a variety of projects. “The funding our local Council has given us will not only help us, but will also assist the whole community,” Mr King said. Other organisations to receive funding through the program include Raymond Terrace Men’s Shed, Port Stephens Suicide Prevention Network and Nelson Bay Australia Day Committee. Mayor Bruce MacKenzie said he had seen first-hand how deserving these organisations were. “There are so many organisations in Port Stephens that are working for no other purpose than to benefit the people in our community,” he said. “There is no underestimating the significance of the work they do, and the difference they make to our community.
