The radio station has also been named as finalists in four other categories, including ‘Best Outside Broadcast of Community Involvement or Special Event’ for their live broadcast from the 2016 Bulahdelah Show. The local amateur broadcaster, who has been hosting the ‘ROCK shed with crazy dave’ for just over 12 months, said his award-nominated interview was about the barriers encountered by females in the male-dominated music industry. “I started talking with Kelly and Jackie from Bandintexas about females in rock music, I got their take on whether there are enough women in the Australian music scene,” he said. “I also talked with them about the hurdles they have faced to get where they are.” Crazy Dave, who has a passion for all types of Rock, said his nomination came about after the station asked him to submit some work for the radio awards earlier this year. “I was pretty stoked just being asked, and I didn’t expect anything after that,” he said. “I got a phone call last week from the Station Manager Andrew Farr, who told me I was down as one of three finalists out of literally hundreds of entries from around the country.” Crazy Dave said he was “shocked” after being told he was a finalist. The award winners will be announced at the National Regional Rural and Sub Metro Broadcasters Conference in Wagga Wagga on 11 March. The ‘ROCK shed with crazy dave’ is a combination of music, talk-back and interviews and airs every Friday night on Great Lakes FM from 6–11pm.
