It is an accredited Search and Rescue Coordination Centre (SARCC) and from 5pm to 9am the radio base receives community first responder calls from triple zero. The dedicated and well trained group are looking for new volunteers. Irrespective of age or experience, there is something for everyone as not everyone has to be on the boats rescuing or searching. Lee Uebergang of MRPS said, “We have ladies who run the gift shop, greenkeepers and those who are dedicated to keeping our museum running smoothly, plenty of opportunity for those wanting to volunteer.” Members receive comprehensive training in work health safety, Long Range (radio) Operators Certificate of Proficiency, radio room operations and working in an Emergency Operations Centre (EOC), first aid certificate and meteorology. Rescue vessel crews undertake extensive additional training to equip them to operate search and rescue operations. The Nelson Head Lighthouse Reserve is available for weddings and has beautiful views and an amazing location. If you have been looking to volunteer somewhere, then why not Marine Rescue?
