Man died while fishing off breakwall at Tuncurry

A man has drowned while fishing and was pulled from the breakwall at Tuncurry.

He was located on the Tuncurry side of the breakwall.

At around 11.30am June 9, Forster Paramedics tried to revive the man but were unsuccessful.

Shortly before mid-day, the Surf Life Saving NSW State Operations Centre was alerted by police that a man had fallen into the water while fishing near the break wall at Tuncurry.

An off-duty lifesaver assisted police and paramedics in the unsuccessful resuscitation of the fisherman.

It is believed that the man had been fishing with his son throughout the morning before the son left to run errands in town. He returned to find his father in the water and immediately called for assistance.

The fisherman was pulled from the water by paramedics and an off-duty lifesaver from Forster SLSC who had been at the beach checking out the surf conditions.

Police will investigate the circumstances surrounding the man’s death with a report to be prepared for the coroner.
