Man charged after allegedly assaulting Police at Shoal Bay Regional News by NOTA - November 16, 2014 A man has been charged after two officers were allegedly assaulted during an arrest at Shoal Bay this morning. Police from Port Stephens Local Area Command were called to Shoal Bay Road about 1.45am (Sunday 16 November 2014), responding to reports that a man was damaging cars in Harwood Avenue. Police will allege when they attempted to arrest the man a struggle ensued. When a Taser was deployed, up to nine men intervened and the officers were assaulted. The men then ran from the scene and the officers sought medical treatment. A man was later arrested and taken to Raymond Terrace Police Station, where he was charged with two counts of assault police. The 20-year-old man, from Nelson Bay, was granted conditional bail to appear in Raymond Terrace Local Court on Monday 1 December 2014. Port Stephens Local Area Commander, Superintendent Craig Rae, said his officers were the subject of a cowardly attack. “We will be alleging up to nine men were involved in the assault of two officers this morning. “One officer was taken to Nelson Bay Hospital while the second was treated at the scene by paramedics. “Detectives from Port Stephens Local Area Command are investigating and will be examining any CCTV footage available to identify those involved. “I urge anyone with information to contact Raymond Terrace Police or Crime Stoppers,” Supt Rae said.
