Man arrested after a stolen vehicle accident at Cardiff, Newcastle

A man has been arrested after a crash involving a stolen vehicle at Cardiff, Newcastle today, Thursday 13 November, 2014.

Police were called by the owner of a 2005 Ford Falcon XR6 utility after it was allegedly stolen in Cardiff about 6.30am today (Thursday 13 November 2014).

Highway Patrol Police located the vehicle a short time later in Wallsend and a pursuit initiated.

It was terminated a short time later due to safety concerns.

In Cardiff, at the intersection of Main Road and Harrison Street, the utility has allegedly lost control, hitting numerous vehicles and a pedestrian getting into a taxi, before hitting a bus shelter.

Police attended and crime scene has been established.

Ambulance paramedics assisted the pedestrian who was taken to John Hunter Hospital in a non-life threatening condition.

The alleged driver, a 25-year-old Toronto man, was arrested. He was taken to John Hunter Hospital under police guard, for mandatory blood and alcohol tests, before being taken to Charlestown Police Station.

Inquiries are continuing.
