Police are investigating after the body of a woman was located at a home in Forbes this morning.

About 6.15am (Friday 19 August 2016), emergency services were called to Union Street, following a concern for welfare.

Officers from Lachlan Local Area Command attended and located a 28-year-old man.

He was arrested and taken to Forbes Police Station where is assisting with inquiries.

A short time later, police attended a home on Underwood Street, and located the body of a 59-year-old woman.

Detectives from Lachlan Local Area Command have formed Strike Force Haddington to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death, which is being treated as suspicious.

Crime scenes have been established at several locations.

Inquiries are ongoing.
