During the evening, guests were guided through a six-course degustation menu, paired with local wines from Old Inn Road and Great Lakes Paddocks. Host and co-organiser Sue Williams said the dinner provided an opportunity to bring the local producers together. “We are all very busy with our own enterprises so it’s hard to take time out to understand what other producers in our group are doing,” she said. “We decided to have the dinner so everyone as a community could bring what they produce to the table.” From exceptionally tender pasture-fed beef and lamb, produced by Great Lakes Paddocks and Long Table Farm, incredibly flavoursome free-range chicken from Topi Open Range through to tempting mozzarella (Burraduc Buffalo Farm), fish pate (Our Fish) and wood-fired sourdough (Palms Microbakery), the farm to table dining experience provided spectacular sensory moments with every course. Other menu highlights included melt-in-the mouth offerings from Bungwahl Public School’s bush tucker garden, Serendipity Ice Cream and Chef Sarah, finishing with stand-out desserts from Nadine the Cake Queen and Brush Turkey Cafe. Co-organiser Dale Bradshaw from Old Inn Road Vineyard said, “It’s all about delivering good products in a competitive market”. “All the people on the food trail are zealous and devoted to the idea of clean, green, eco-friendly produced food,” he said. With the next Food Trail scheduled for 7 October, MidCoast Mayor David West said the quality local produce is a major drawcard for tourists. “These events are at the heart of tourism,” he said. “Our visitors want to connect with the local producers and see where their food comes from and how it is produced.” The Great Lakes Food Trail provides a unique farmgate tasting experience along a route stretching from Bulahdelah to Pacific Palms.
