LOCAL businesses have dug deep once again to donate prizes for a raffle to raise funds for Jay Allen’s marathon walk for melanoma.

When Kaye Simpson from First National in Hawks Nest tasked herself with the job of prize gatherer, she thought she’d manage a basket of goodies.

“I have had an amazing response from local businesses and residents so we will have eight draws at Jay’s fundraiser on Thursday night,” Kaye told News Of The Area.

When 40-year-old Jay arrives in Hawks Nest later this week, he will have walked nearly a thousand kilometres of his marathon trek from Brisbane to Sydney.

“He’s got a few blisters, but going strong,” Crew Member Haley Van Elst said.

Of course Jay’s life changing journey really began nine years ago when he was diagnosed with Melanoma then survived to tell the story.

If you would like to meet Jay, Mumm’s Restaurant on Marine Drive in Tea Gardens is holding a fundraising dinner on Thursday March 23 from 6pm.

Tickets for the raffle are $2 each or three for $5 dollars and can be bought ahead of the dinner at First National Real Estate in Hawks Nest or Mumm’s.
