Legendary Indigenous singer-songwriter Archie Roach to play the Jetty Memorial Theatre Coffs Coast by News Of The Area - Modern Media - July 2, 2021 Archie Roach. Photo Phil Nitchie. ARCHIE Roach is something of an icon of Australian music, creating a strong platform to campaign for Indigenous rights from his inspired and moving songwriting and performances. With a slew of awards for his past works, Archie is about to go on tour with his latest album and memoir called ‘Tell Me Why’, first released in late 2019. Archie told News Of The Area “We recorded a bunch of my old songs in my kitchen at home, and it has given the songs a different sound and feel, we’re reinterpreting the old songs with a new line-up, and I want to share that.” Starting in Adelaide on July 16, Archie will then perform at Lismore on August 7, Grafton on August 8 and then at the Jetty Memorial Theatre (JMT) in Coffs Harbour on Sunday 11 August, continuing down the coast to finish inland in Dubbo on 18 August. Archie’s story encompasses much of the heartache that Indigenous Australians have experienced, and yet his message is of love and finding a happy place in music. He is described on his website as, “A keen observer and soulful poet, Archie voices the joy, pain and hope he found on his life’s journey through song to become the legendary singer-songwriter and storyteller that he is today, beloved and respected by fans worldwide.” The performance will include songs as well as yarns and an opportunity to connect with people.
