Locals Freddie Gravenor, Tilly Gravenor, Emily Brill, Chad Butterworth are all undertaking the eight week course that has been made possible by the generous financial support of a local benefactor.

The aim is to encourage young students to participate in the sport of sailing.

Four students have enrolled for the 8 week minimum sessions, which will conclude by the presentation of a Start Sailing 1 certificate by the Australian Sailing accredited instructor Graham Oborn.

The students are learning to sail in the sheltered waters of Sunset Beach at Soldiers Point adjacent to the Soldiers Point Marina, which sponsor the sailing school.

The Soldiers Point Sailing School in conjunction with the Real Futures Foundation also offers sailing as a sport option for students in High School on the Tomaree Peninsula.

There are opportunities for local families and businesses to support the Soldiers Point Sailing School which encourages further student participation.

Graham Oborn told News Of The Area, “Learning to sail gives young people confidence, they learn life skill and about our waterways in a fun and safe environment at the sailing school.

“This has been a wonderful opportunity for these students at the sailing school and we hope to be able to repeat the scholarships again if we get enough support from the community,” he said.
