The proposed expansion has twice been rejected by the Joint Regional Planning Panel. A range of community concerns regarding the development application have been raised since the proposal was first mooted including threats to endangered bird life in the area. Soldiers Point Community Group president Jean Armstrong said the Commissioner of the Court will conduct an on-site meeting with the parties to the proceedings at Soldiers Point on 3 April 2017 at 10.30am. “Evidence will then be heard by approximately 10 registered objectors in the Soldiers Point Hall beginning at 12 noon,” she said. “If time permits, the Court will resume at the Newcastle Local Court on the afternoon of the same day.” The remainder of the proceedings will then be heard in the Land and Environment Court, 225 Macquarie Street, Sydney between 4 – 7 April 2017. All sessions are open to the public and the normal court procedures will apply.
