King of the Mountain Bowls Tournament played in Bulahdelah

Clear skies and stunning mountain views greeted 160 bowlers who were competing for the title of the 2016 King of the Mountain last weekend.

Held at Bulahdelah Bowling Club, friendly rivalry was present amongst the competitors representing nine clubs including Bulahdelah and Tea Gardens locally and Port Macquarie, Penrith, Taree. Raymond Terrace and Forster from further afield.

Seventy-five ends were played over the two-day competition with Greg Felton, Gary Alnum and Glenn Chandler from Penrith Men’s Bowling Club claiming the King of the Mountain title.

The annual tournament is now in its 31st year.
Bulahdelah Men’s Bowling Club Secretary Ken Southern said the highlight of the competition was seeing everyone getting involved and enjoying it.

“It’s good to have the competitions in Bulahdelah to showcase ourselves as a playing venue and it also keeps us on the competition map,” he said.

“Players and teams that come here always enjoy it and we thank all the clubs for taking part.”

Bulahdelah Bowling Club Members were on hand during the weekend to ensure the smooth running of the tournament including Rod Landsdowne and referee Peter Mostyn.

Tea Gardens bowler Sean Merrick told News Of The Area he enjoyed the competition and hospitality during the tournament.

“It was a well-run competition and it’s a very good venue to play at,” he said.
“Bulahdelah and Tea Gardens always support and help each other, so the competition was a good demonstration of that.”

The first King of the Mountain Bowls Competition was held in Bulahdelah in 1985.
